Revealing the Lies

by Paul Cooley on July 6, 2009

So what happens to these people when it doesn’t work? They stop trying. Well as far as I am concerned failure in NOT an option! We need to be careful how we think. We can’t let discouragement, fear and lies stop us from pushing through. No matter what area in our life we are talking about there is always going to be stuff we need to push through and it’s very important to understand that the Lord is there with you every step of the way, just like He told Joshua. (Joshua 1:9)

Now there are these weird ideas out there that all you have to do is think it and it will happen. Now this might make some people mad, but oh well. If all you have to do is think it and it will happen was true, I know I sure would have had a LOT more G.I. Joes when I was a kid! And I would like to know where my 30 car garage is?? :)

Let’s face it, it’s a little more than just thinking it and then POOF! It is however a different way of thinking. Some call it the abundance mentality, others call it the Millionaire Mindset, whatever you call it, it’s an attitude and a lifestyle.
The Bible has a lot to say about what we think about and how we are to protect our minds and hearts. If we don’t bad stuff happens, lies sneak in and the enemy gains ground.

So many people out there think they are the scum of the earth, so they act like it. The Bible says in Proverbs 23:7 … “If a man thinks it in his heart, so is he.” How true. If you are told you are stupid all the time, you are going to start to believe it about yourself. Then you are going to start to tell others how stupid you are and your life will reflect what you believe. If you believe the lie about how you will never succeed and you believe it, guess what’s going to happen?
And here is the real crazy part…

When someone like this does start to see some success in their business, their marriage, their personal life, etc. They will sabotage it! Because failure is what they are comfortable with. I have seen this happen way too many times in ministry and business! It’s really sad to watch. So much of this has to do with what we have been taught about money, success and yourself. If you have heard misquoted verses like “Money if the Root of ALL Evil”, then how could someone who loves God want to be evil?! So when success starts to happen, whether they know it or not, they will do something to stop that success from happening, so that way they won’t be evil. See what I mean?

This is why you need to watch out that YOU aren’t holding YOU back. I have seen so many people try to build a home based business, the whole time saying “I hope this works”… Then they give up.

If you look at the bigger picture and understand that the devil doesn’t want Christ’s followers to represent Christ or His Kingdom in the right way, so if the “father of lies” plant seeds in your heart and mind about money and/or success that isn’t true, you won’t be able to represent God the way you should. Then add condemnation, guilt, stress and every other thing on top of that, and you have got yourself a mess!

The interesting thing about what I’m calling the “Kingdom Mindset”, or what could be called Millionaire Mindset is…

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A MILLIONAIRE TO HAVE THE MINDSET!

But you do have to change your attitude and your lifestyle by eliminating the crap in your life and getting the Word of God in you. If you look at a lot of successful people, they live differently, they walk differently. I’m not talking about a snobby, prideful way. But most of them that really understand this, they live a life of excellence. And the most of them learn this before they ever make any real money. Because in all reality it’s not about the money. If you are making it all about the money, you are going to be extremely disappointed. If you look at people in the Bible like Joseph, Job or King David, they had to go through some stuff to get to where God wanted them.

It’s a way of life, it’s about making the right choices, and it’s about hanging around the right people and knowing that you are better then what most people settle for. Most importantly, it’s about putting God first in your life and business and making it a goal to glorify Him no matter what.

These are the things that prepare people to handle large amount of money and not be selfish or foolish in their spending. Remember the people we talked about earlier who won the lottery and blew it within a short amount of time or worse? Those people didn’t have the right mindset and probably didn’t have the right lifestyle.

Remember it’s not an egotistical attitude where you treat others like dirt. In fact, it’s the opposite, most successful people got there by helping others. They are leaders who lead others to success, in all areas in life.
Too many get puffed up with pride and when that happens they just shot themselves in their own foot! No one likes jerks!
This is one of the steps to shifting your thinking…

Make it about helping others, not about you getting rich. Make it about glorifying God and not yourself. I heard a very successful entrepreneur say recently that one of the steps to great success it to give. Give your time, effort, resources, etc. He was making it a point to be able to sponsoring 12 more kids in a non-profit organization.
What an awesome change in focus!
